As a self-confessed architecture geek - especially of a 1950s-era modernist style - when I was invited by The Modern House to film a music video for Saturnine at a currently-for-sale property in Lancashire called Domus (a prime example of the above style), I jumped at the chance.
The house is absolutely stunning; a masterpiece of design inside and out, utilising the different levels found on the gentle slope of the plot, and is ultimately a house filled with light, and a marvellous sense of spaciousness, which is everything I love about the creative and aesthetic intent behind this architectural and interior design style.
Alongside the film above, there is also a lovely writeup about the piece which is live now on the Modern House website, featuring a range of answers I gave to some insightful questions, and this whole feature is the first in a new series they are running to highlight some of their listed properties, titled House Music.
This all came about in an extremely natural and organic way, with a fair degree of serendipity too. I have been an avid fan of TMH for many years now (although not anywhere close to a sufficient level of finance to be able to afford one of the properties listed!), and it really was a dream come true to be asked to do this.
It was a wonderful day, and I particularly enjoyed speaking to the lovely owner Keith throughout the day about numerous things to do with the history of the house, the original architect, the fixtures and fittings - many of which have been lovingly looked-after or restored, and what it is like living in a property like this.
The room on the lowest floor of the house where we filmed the piano, is actually a wonderfully unique space, filled with the most gorgeous teak wood, a circular sofa, a bar, and a circular dance floor which lights up. Perhaps not the right music for that, but the space is absolutely incredible, and Iām sure they have had many parties there over the years.
Of course, if you have Ā£1.2 million to spare then you could actually buy it and live in it (please send me an invite to the house warming if you do).
It is such a pleasure to have been part of this project and I hope you enjoy watching the film and reading more in the article.
