Not A Podcast #30
Greetings from the Isle of Mull
It’s such a treat to be back here on the beautiful Isle of Mull off the west coast of Scotland. For those of you who have been around for a while, you may remember I was last here in 2023…
…which barely seems possible to be approaching two and a half years since then, but there we are. Time moves forward and we’re all getting older!
This time, I was invited back to play a series of house concerts as part of the pared-back winter programme which the venue here - An Tobar & Mull Theatre - puts on each year in the off-season for local residents.
It’s a lovely idea and concept; playing in peoples’ homes across the island, three on Saturday, three on Sunday back-to-back, being whisked off to the next one. Lots of fun!
It chimes very much with my philosophy of I’ll Come To You - nowhere is too remote, and everyone should have access to live music in the place in which they live.
I’ve played plenty of house concerts in my time, but even now, I’m often taken aback by just how lovely they are as occasions - meaningful, intimate, informal, important, memorable.
It goes without saying, if you ever want to host one (or know someone with a massive house!!), always get in touch. I don’t make a habit of saying no because “it’s too difficult” and I am not going to start now.
Here’s the lovely sound of the quiet harbourside in the main settlement of Tobermory, with some extended thoughts from me.
Don’t forget - my UK Tour has now started. There are LOADS of dates to catch me at right across the country over the next few months.
Do come. Tell your friends. Buy them a ticket and drag them along, or buy a friend a ticket if they live in a place I’m going to.
Also…my Live In Eindhoven EP is out now on all music streaming platforms, so if you’d like to have a listen, you can choose your preferred platform here

Love the idea of a house concert on the Isle of Mull. So romantic.
I am planning my first concert as composer/pianist in the spring. Any tips for engaging the audience?
