I’m posting this from a lovely place in Somerset (south-west of England) called Cooper Hall, a very special performance space where I’m currently in-residence for a few days to work on new ideas and explore new things.
With this being a new platform and way to share, I thought it would be interesting to share some audio of what I’ve been working on so far…
I’m working on a musical idea which is centred around the concept of deconstruction and reconstruction - attempting to be more aware of the choices we have to remove the aspects of our lives which hinder us, whilst acknowledging the opportunity to rebuild, shape and mould our outlook on things.
This section of the site is an opportunity to share my new musical ideas and fragments in their rawest and most fragile of states - a voice memo from my phone; not removing any mistakes made; in full acknowledgement of the fact this is very much a WIP (work in progress)!
It feels like quite a vulnerable thing to do as an artist and a creator - we get used to working on something quietly and protectively until it has arrived at a supposed level of perfection (or, at least, a level we are happy with) and are then happy to share it.
I’m very interested to hear what you think - anything that resonates musically or thematically; any sections you like; how you potentially see it unfolding from here.
All I ask, is that you are gentle with it. Sharing something you’ve just made is a little scary, but I’m keen to build something special here, and I know you will go with me :-)
Had a great time listening to this, Sim! Reminded me a little Tiersen in the slow parts and a little Melnyk in the fast parts
