Haven't seen either of those yet, but now have them on my to-do list.
I did see "Oppenheimer" and thought that, on at least a couple of occasions, the music got out of control. I get it: it was trying to convey the freneticism of the project and the existential nature of the project. But the music took over and I lost track of what was *happening* on the screen. I think I even said (we were in the living room at the time) "WHAT'S UP WITH THE MUSIC?" Then, having gotten that out of my system, I sat back down.
Good stuff John, yes highly recommend both. Two total opposite ends of the spectrum, for sure.
Re ‘Oppenheimer’, I definitely know what you mean. I think the fanfare around it all, and the Christopher Nolan-effect potentially built it all up more than was necessary, which perhaps contributed to every aspect of the film ending up being a bit too much.
I agree with you on the front-and-centre nature of the music. It was a little full-on for me too. It’s interesting to compare it with the score and sound design of ‘The Zone Of Interest’, in which I’d say the sound was such a fundamental part of conveying the horrifying juxtaposition of the family’s existence next to Auschwitz. Whereas ‘Oppenheimer’ felt like it was trying to be so bold and in-your-face.
I enjoyed knowing very little about the film before I saw it. The whole film is beautifully paced and satisfying as a story. Brilliantly acted by all of the cast. I didn’t think about the music until afterwards and have listened to the soundtrack since. I hope you enjoy it too.

I think you’d like the score. https://deezer.page.link/Sz1XXc2m84RPneh96
Thanks for this, I have heard really good things about the score!
Great suggestion, Michael! I’m not sure why/how I’ve managed to not see it yet, it’s high on my list for sure!

Sounds ideal! Can’t wait to watch it!
Sounds absolutely up my street! Great to hear, thanks for the recommendation 😊
